Camp group ⛺🔥

The HSSR Camp group is responsible for setting up and operating tents during larger or longer search and rescue operations. The group's role is to ensure that rescuers have shelter and facilities to rest and feed in demanding situations.

The group's tents are well-equipped for harsh conditions, but have also been used as sleeping quarters or communal facilities when the unit is conducting highland patrols or other missions. The group ensures that the camps are well-located, efficiently set up, and ready for use whenever needed.

The movement of the camp depends on the circumstances at each time. If the area is difficult to access and the equipment is transported in a large modified vehicle. If access is easier, the unit's van is used, but in some cases it may be necessary to transport items by helicopter to get the camp to the right location.

The group holds regular training exercises where they practice setting up camps, as well as practicing the use of all the equipment that goes with the camp. This ensures that the group can set up the camp quickly and safely in any situation.

The camp group also has a significant history in international rescue operations. When the Icelandic International Rescue Team was active, the camp group was part of it and, among other things, participated in aid in Haiti after the earthquake in 2010. The camp group was also part of the international coordination group of Landsbjörg that went to aid in Turkey after the earthquakes there in 2023.

The camp group leaders oversee the renovation of all the camp's equipment, whether it be tents, power stations, large heat blowers, floodlights, beds or other equipment that ensures the facilities are always as well equipped as possible for the conditions at any given time.

With organisation and knowledge, the camp group ensures that rescue workers have the necessary facilities to work longer in difficult conditions – whether in search, rescue or humanitarian operations. 🏕️🍲
