Disaster group 🌍🛠️
The disaster group is a new and powerful joint group of Hjálparsveit skáta í Reykjavík and Hjálparsveit skáta í Kópavogi, established with the aim of responding quickly and professionally when major accidents or disasters occur anywhere in the country.
The team is composed of well-trained and specialized rescuers who can operate as an independent unit for at least 48 hours without external assistance. It is thus not a burden on the community that has been affected by the disaster, but rather comes with everything needed – both equipment and resources – to support and carry out rescue operations in the area.
The Disaster Team aims to:
Carry out technical rescue in challenging situations, e.g. when people are trapped in rubble or in inaccessible environments.
Manage operations on the ground, with regard to the team's equipment, transportation, communications and resources.
Work in coordination with other response teams and promote a professional and organized response in disaster areas.
The disaster group is based on a strong team, extensive experience from diverse groups from both forces, and a shared vision of safety, professionalism, and sustainability in the most severe situations.
