About us
Hjálparsveit skáta í Reykjavík was founded in 1932 and is today one of the largest rescue teams in the country. It is a member of the Slysavarnafélagið Landsbjörg and has a total of about 300 members. The team's call system is activated by the police and the team is part of the system of the National Police Commissioner's Civil Protection Department. The team is a land rescue team and equipment and training are based on this. Members are divided into groups according to each person's interests. A program is published with an overview of exercises, trips and lectures. In addition to the recruitment program, numerous trips are taken each year by groups as well as general trips.
A seven-member board oversees the activities of HSSR, but great emphasis is placed on the independence and initiative of the groups and the members themselves. The association is mostly self-funded, and fundraising is therefore a large part of the work of members and new members. The group's premises are at Malarhöfði 6 and are about 1,200 m2 in size. The group's equipment is stored there, and it is well equipped.
